More Information:

As a customer owned bank, we are an Authorised Deposit-taking Institution (ADI) and are protected by the same safeguards that apply to all banks and financial institutions, and are regulated by the same authorities. As a mutual, our customers are also shareholders. Profits are reinvested into the organisation, to strengthen the Mutual Bank and return value to Members.

Most of our Members work in the Education Community, or are families of people working in education, however anyone is welcome to join the Mutual Bank. Our Board of Directors share the Mutual Bank’s philosophy of providing customers with a fair deal and superior service and are elected by customers via ballot.

Each customer holds one share and has one vote and is entitled to stand for election to the Board*. This means all customers have an equal chance to have their say and influence policy.

See where we started and how far we have come. When Victoria Teachers Mutual Bank started in 1972, we had 48 customers and $480 in start-up capital. Today, we have more than 100,000 customers and $2 billion in assets.

Our founding Members were educators who wanted to create a better economic life for people working in education, as well as their families. Their goals were to provide superior service, a fair deal, and a strong, secure organisation that puts its customers first.

In more than four decades we have never strayed from our commitment to provide value to our Members and the education community. We’re the only financial institution in Victoria focusing on people working in education and their families.

After all these years, our organisation might have grown, but our values have stayed the same.
